July 30, 2025 — A powerful magnitude 8.8 earthquake has struck off the Pacific coast, triggering a series of large tsunami waves currently impacting multiple regions.

Russia’s eastern coastline is already experiencing destructive waves as high as 13 feet, causing flooding in several coastal towns and prompting emergency evacuations. Authorities are urging residents to move to higher ground as aftershocks continue.
The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued tsunami warnings, with waves exceeding 9 feet expected to strike northern and eastern shores within the next few hours. Emergency systems have been activated, and coastal rail services are temporarily suspended.
Further across the Pacific, tsunami advisories have also been issued for Hawaii and Alaska, where waves of significant height could reach shorelines later today. Residents are being advised to stay away from beaches and low-lying areas.
International monitoring agencies, including the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, are closely tracking the wave progression and coordinating with national governments to ensure public safety.
